A South Portland man who fled from Westbrook police was apprehended and arrested Friday afternoon.

Officer Jim Farrenkopf said he witnessed 27-year-old Jeremy Schumacher threaten a woman outside the public safety building and drive off in his car. Police followed Schumacher and stopped him on Giles Street, where he fled from police on foot.

Officers eventually found him on the path off of Stroudwater Street that connects Westbrook High School and Hannaford supermarket.

Schumacher, who lives on Froswick Avenue in South Portland, was not allowed to have contact with the woman he threatened. He was charged with operating after suspension, violation of conditions of release, violation of protection order, refusing to submit to arrest, domestic violence terrorizing and obstructing the report of a crime.

Farrenkopf said Friday he is being held without bail at Cumberland County Jail.
