SANFORD – A Shapleigh woman was killed in a car accident on Main Street Saturday afternoon, according to police.
Marlene Lewis, 73, of Back Road, Shapleigh, was a passenger in a vehicle turning left on Main Street into the shopping center near the Route 4 rotary just after 7 p.m. Her vehicle was struck by another vehicle heading north at the same time, police said.
Police said Lewis was killed in the accident. The driver of her vehicle, Shirley Clements, 70, of Main Street in Sanford, was taken to a local hospital with a possible broken leg. There were no other reports of injuries.
Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
