Workshops aid job seekers

The York County CareerCenter in Springvale continues its monthly workshop programs for job seekers and those who are considering training to upgrade their skills and increase their employability.

York County Networking Group Brown Bag Networking Fridays – Oct.12 and 26; Nov, 9 and 30;  Dec. 14 and 28, noon-2 p.m. Meet other people, share strategies, tips and leads. All are welcome. No reservations are required.

Resume Workshop – Tuesday, Oct. 2,  9 a.m.-noon. Explore the basics of resume writing and learn how to promote the qualifications you have that directly match what the employer needs.

Computer Boot Camp 3-part series –Fridays, Oct. 5, 12, 26, 9-11 a.m. Week 1, Computer Basics. Week 2, Internet and email basics. Week 3 with Microsoft Word basics. Classes are small and space is limited. Call to register.

York County Works: Create A Portfolio and Market Yourself for New Employment – Tuesday, Oct. 9,  1:30-3:30 p.m. Join Ruth Graves from Women, Work and Community as she discusses how to develop a portfolio and market transferable skills and experiences.  Call to register.

Interview Workshop – Tuesday, Oct. 16, 9 a.m.-noon. Learn new interviewing techniques. Bring a copy of your resume and participate in role- playing interviews.

GATEways to Employment – Monday, Oct. 22,  9 a.m.-noon p.m. The beginning installment of the “workshop trilogy.”  Learn how assessments can identify abilities, interests and skills. Discover the unadvertised job market. Other topics include job search strategies, interviewing, resume and cover letter tips; and an overview of available community assistance resources and additional job training opportunities.

Maine Educational Opportunity Center – Monday, Oct. 22, 10 a.m.

 “Essentials of College Planning” free workshop for adults 19 and over. Covering topics on college awareness and planning along with the Federal Financial Aid process.

Human Resource Panel Discussion – Tuesday, Oct. 23, 9-11 a.m. Three human resources directors from local companies discuss the ins-and-out of resume and job application reviews, including job interviews and appropriate follow-up techniques.

Adecco Staffing – Every Thursday in October, an Adecco representative will be recruiting at the York County CareerCenter in Springvale from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Current openings are with Poland Springs, Corning Life Sciences and GE.

Women Unlimited – non-traditional occupations specialists, for women Interested in exploring non-traditional occupations.  Contact Sue LeClair, 215-6992.

Essentials of College Planning (recurring workshop) – Christy Le of Maine will hold workshops covering topics on college awareness and planning along with the federal financial aid process. Call to be scheduled for the next workshop.

Other services at the CareerCenter include orientations for potential re-training opportunities, held monthly; and no-cost classes in assertive communication and other topics offered by the Maine Centers for Women Work & Community.
