Sox send top prospects to Sea Dogs

With half the season over, the Portland Sea Dogs sit at the bottom of the Eastern League's Eastern Division. At 13 games out of a playoff spot, Portland is a very long shot to play in the post-season, much like the Red Sox, for whom these minor leaguers are striving to play.

Spring sports: Westbrook, Gorham seasons in review

Both area schools – Westbrook and Gorham – posted seasons to be proud of this spring. Neither the Blazes nor the Rams picked up any team State titles, but Gorham nabbed a couple individual crowns on the track, and programs at both schools continue to develop in leaps and bounds, promising further excitement next year.

Run in a Race launches new Freeport 5K series

Freeport’s Brian Berkemeyer has been a runner himself for 37 years now. He’s coached the Falcons cross country and indoor track squads since 2000, and operated a race organizations company, Run in a Race, for five years. And now he’s launched a race series of his own, called the Back Woods Trail Series, aimed at giving something back to the runners themselves.

Hall leaps past national long jump record

On Sunday, in her final jump, Casco's Kate Hall broke the oldest U.S. girls’ high school track-and-field record with a jump of 22 feet, 5 inches reaching the pinnacle of her long-jumping career.

Westbrook-based Rosevelt soccer team head to Regionals

Rosevelt Soccer Club co-founder and U18 boys head coach John C. L. Morgan closed Friday morning’s practice on the back field at Westbrook Middle School with a crossbar challenge: His players lined up and took shots at the metal tube connecting the goal-cage posts.
