After months of talks, a stalemate that threatened the youth baseball program in Gorham has been resolved just days before kids are to take the field.

South Portland eked out a win in Scarborough on Thursday evening, lead-off hitter Sam Troiano scoring the game’s lone run – an unearned run at that – in the top of the first. From there, the game devolved into a defensive battle, and while the Storm threatened more than once in the later innings, the Riots managed to hold on for the 1-0 victory.

Girls Lacrosse: High-flying Falcons kennel the Huskies

Freeport may have started slow against Gould on Friday, but once Emily Johnson evened things up, roughly eight minutes into the first half, the Falcons took control of the action – and held onto it for the rest of the game. Johnson tallied four, as did Taylor Rinaldi, in Freeport’s eventual 15-8 victory against the visiting Huskies.

Boys Lacrosse: Gorham pulls away from Windham in fourth quarter

Again and again the Rams edged ahead of the visiting Eagles on Friday evening, but again and again the Eagles came back. Not until the fourth quarter did Gorham finally crack Windham’s code and pull away for good, Mike Susi leading the way.

Softball: Westbrook Blazes sizzle Scots with hot bats

Westbrookers Emily Talbot, Camryn LaPierre and Amberly Delponte knocked one, two, three consecutive hits against visiting Bonny Eagle in the bottom of the first on Friday afternoon to give the Blazes an immediate advantage over the Scots.

Track: Capers look to championship meets

Cape Elizabeth, Greely and Yarmouth all congregated at Falmouth on Thursday for a fourway throwdown, the schools’ last before next Saturday, May 30’s Western Maine Conference Championship at Lake Region in Naples.

Girls Lacrosse: Big first half launches Riots ahead of Spartans

South Portland’s Mary Cronin and Maddie Hasson led the Riots’ offense over visiting Sanford on Thursday, shoveling a combined eight goals past Spartans keeper Eva Belanger in the first half alone. Hasson stayed particularly hot in the latter 25 minutes, and teammates Abby Letourneau and Colleen Fleming also found a groove as South Portland cruised to a 16-7 W.

Baseball: Lake Region washes over Falcons in extra innings

Freeport and visiting Lake Region battled through eight scoreless innings on Wednesday afternoon – both sides’ pitching turned out top-notch performances, despite some ravenous winds – before Lakers Damon Knight and Nick Wandishin finally made the contact their team needed to jump ahead.
