Two recent area graduates have received $1,000 scholarships from the Run for Cash Family Race Day Committee – Anna Foss of Old Orchard Beach High School and Charlotte Pierce of Thornton Academy in Saco.
The Run for Cash is held each year in June in honor of Capt. Christopher Scott Cash, a graduate of Old Orchard Beach High School who was killed while on duty in Iraq in 2004. The event raises money for scholarships given to area students who epitomize who Cash was and what he cared most about.
Foss will attend the University of Maine in the fall, where she plans on majoring in international relations. Pierce will attend Columbia University in New York City. She plans to major in journalism and will also participate on the school’s cross-country and track teams.
“We are very proud to be able to help these fine young women to pursue their education,” said Nancey and Bob Kelley, Cash’s parents and race organizers.
